huh...

So, I took Harrison to the vet today. I'd finally tracked down this really well-respected exotic vet that I've been wanting to see. He used to be the director of a multi-million-dollar wildlife preserve, so I knew I could trust him.

Harry is the most calm when he's on me, so basically, Harry was sitting on my shoulder while the guy checked him out.

The vet said he looked really healthy and his coat was in beautiful shape, and he was really well socialized, etc, etc. all the stuff i wanted to hear...

And then he says, "Oh, and by the way....he?"

"He's a she."

Funny, huh?

Well, it doesn't really look like a nut, so we're just gonna call it a cute hat...

NBS: 2; Tiff: 0

My first shift, I was up all night with a puking thirteen-year old, after chasing teenage boys out of closets and from under beds.

My second shift we had a fire alarm. For two hours. In the rain. And the kids started rumours about bomb threats.

This is what I did today when I got home from my other job.

Allow me to annotate

I have no coherence, let alone eloquence to offer you today. Deal with it.

weekend (and baby hat) update

Being as my availability for picture-taking has been somewhat limited this weekend, I do not yet have photos to share. (and if the weather doesn't improve sometime soon, I won't have any well-lit photos for quite some time). However, I have finished a number of hats which I am excited to share. The following hats inspired by various fruits/veggies have been successfully completed by me in the past several days:

Strawberry (see below)
Tomato
Apple
Orange
Blueberry
...with a Pineapple well on the way to completion as well.

Stopped by the new home of Lettuce Knit on Sunday. Met Ryan, Megan's cat. (p.s. Megan: Ryan's real name is Simon. He told me so.)

Also on Sunday Em and I had breakfast at the Senator. Oh, Senator pancakes! How I love thee, let me count the ways...

Since my horrifying, yet rewarding first overnight shift at the NBS on Thursday/Friday, my once black lip has now faded to a rather menacing purple.

Note to self: even a door in the hands of a sleepless person can be a weapon.

All in all it was a lovely time, although it would've been nice if I'd gotten to sit down once in a while. Also, one of my 4.5mm DPNs wandered away. I think it grew legs like the gum in the commercials. That, or some poor dancer really needed a funny looking pointy stick to hold her bun in place. Y'know...whatever.

This event gave me the perfect excuse to acquire a NEW set of Bryspun DPNs while on abovementioned visit to Lettuce Knit. Let me just state for the record that these needles were decieving in their plain vanilla whiteness. I truly adore them. They are short enough that I can work in the round without constant readjustments to get at the needle I need. Also, they are "sticky" so my yarn doesn't fall off the ends while I'm struggling to do decreases on the other side of the hat. Simply put, they are perfect.

In other news, a dear friend who has made a habit of wandering in and out of my life has recently wandered back in. He is going (or has he gone already?) to Australia soon, but upon his return, he will be in the TDot once again. (Read: I might actually get to hang out with him once in a while - school/practicum schedules permitting - once again.) This is very exciting news.

Finally, I have recently received word that the family W will be visiting in the next few weeks. This is good because I will finally get to give my sister her graduation sweater. This is bad because you can only coop my family up together for so long before somebody starts a fight. Should be interesting. Wish me luck. (and patience!)

Well, looks like it's time to go be productive and oh...I dunno...work for a living?

Happy Monday, people!

brain-freeze?

Is this not the cutest thing you've ever seen?

Is it possible to get a brain-freeze from a cuteness overdose?

ask and it will be given

It sounds trite and/or moderately religious, but for me it's neither. I've come to the conclusion that I've been holding on too tight; holding back in fear that I might fail...which leads inevitably to my failure. So one day not too long ago,I decided to just stop it. To reorient my thinking, and plant myself firmly in the driver's seat, so-to-speak; stop letting things happen to me and start happening to them.

The most astounding thing has happened.

Lately I've noticed people noticing me in a new way. The things they seem to think about me are remarkably positive too. The worrier on the inside is rather alarmed by this development. (I wonder if perhaps it's concern over job-security.) I've accomplished things I never would've dreamed I would be able to so easily do.

Just last week, I remarked to several people that I could use a little extra breathing-room in the cashflow department, and today I got called in for a relief shift at the NBS tomorrow night.

Ask and it will be given.

Amazing.

In knitting news, I'm nearly finished my first strawberry hat (pictures to follow) and contemplating whether I can make and apple/a pear out of some chenille/squishy pale yellow baby yarn. Thoughts?

all done! (again)

This

From This

And These

From my very own imagination combining random sock-knitting knowledge

success...sortof

Bought some yarn at Lewiscraft (they're still open, woo hoo!) even though it wasn't the same dye lot. Next to the rest of the sweater, it doesn't look any different to me, so I'm going with it.

Went to wal-mart and got needles so I can cast on other project before I gnaw my own arm off out of boredom   have to start looking for something other than knitting to occupy my time do something foolish like ordering needles (and of course yarn to make it worth while) from the internet.

Went to no frills at Dufferin mall and discovered that their produce is MUCH better than the produce at MY no frills. Purchased said produce.

From my shopping trip, I have gained several resolutions:

  1. Never, never go shopping on a holiday/weekend/friday night again.

  2. Learn to be more understanding of those who walk at the pace of a drunken snail going uphill in molasses more slowly and erratically than you

  3. Always, always resist the urge to take allow abovementioned bag of produce and swing it at those slow walkers' heads to bump those who walk more slowly than you.

Me? Irritated?

update

I've just read the yarn harlot's February 20, 2006 post. The red wine I was sipping nearly made an emergency exit (through my nose.)

I feel better, although I've yet to determine the catalyst.

blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh!

I. Am. An. Idiot.

of the first order.

No Really. I am.

Only a few short days ago, while standing in my local Lewiscraft for what I knew could very well be the last time, (because they've been bought out and are closing, although I can never remember when exactly) my thought process went a little something like this:

"Hey look, they have more of that yarn that I'm making my sister's sweater out of.

I wonder if I should buy more.

I AM on the last ball, and I'm sortof worried that I won't have enough.

One ball won't cost that much.

But I don't want to buy extra and then not be able to return it and have this random ball of *expletive* "lilac petal" yarn laying around.

I'll finish it tonight, and come back tomorrow if I need more."

Now, several days later, I've finally finished. And I do need that one last ball (albeit, only a couple yards of it) and I'm in a panic. If Lewiscraft closed at the end of the month, and Wal-mart doesn't sell the stuff, I'm going to have to mail-order one effin skein of two-dollar yarn!!

I've been silently fuming in the corner of my apartment and have come to the conclusion that there are only two possible solutions to this problem:
  1. Find this yarn somewhere.
  2. Drink wine. A lot of it.

Being as I can't do #1 until tomorrow, I think I'll give #2 a go, shall I...?

it's here!

And it's BEAUTIFUL! Pardon the picture of my belt, but until I grow a third hand, I'll need to use other body parts to hold things up while I'm using both hands to take the picture.

I *HEART* it!

What would I do without ebay to tempt me?
